Palliative Club – Activities and Contributions

The Palliative Club of our college is committed to fostering a culture of compassion, empathy, and social responsibility among students through meaningful engagement with palliative care initiatives. The club actively works towards supporting individuals who face serious health conditions and socio-economic challenges, while offering students opportunities to understand the real-life impact of community service.

Promoting Self-Employment and Dignity

As part of its outreach initiatives, the Palliative Club identifies financially backward families and provides support through practical means. One such initiative was the provision of a sewing machine to a family in need, empowering them to earn a livelihood through self-employment. These activities aim to restore a sense of purpose, dignity, and independence, while promoting inclusivity and social equity.

Student Involvement in Homecare Programmes

Students of our college actively participate in homecare programmes organized by established palliative care organizations such as Daya Palliative Care, Perambra. These experiences provide students with firsthand exposure to the realities of palliative care, highlighting the importance of patient-centred care that respects dignity, autonomy, and the unique needs of each individual. Such interactions deepen their understanding of the physical, emotional, and psychological dimensions of healthcare.

Volunteer Training and Awareness

The Palliative Club encourages students to attend home care volunteer training programmes. These sessions equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to contribute meaningfully to the well-being of patients and their families. They also offer a platform for students to share their ideas and participate in the development of future initiatives in the field of palliative care.

Fundraising and Community Support

In addition to direct service, the club actively engages in fundraising activities to support palliative patients, particularly those in and around the Perambra region. These efforts help raise funds to meet the medical and care-related expenses of underprivileged patients, reinforcing the club’s commitment to alleviating suffering through collective social action.
